A significant increase in the number of cancer patients in Deir Ezzor governorate, and dozens of cases have been registered every month since the beginning of this year, according to a special source for DeirEzzor24 network.
A doctor at Al-Biruni University Hospital in Damascus told Deir Ezzor 24 that more than 80% of the hospital’s specialists in treating cancer patients are from the eastern region, and most of them are from Deir Ezzor governorate as a result of inhaling gases (methane, sulfur, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, chlorine and fluorine), in addition to For materials floating in the air such as lead, mercury and nickel.
He added, the malignant tumors range from skin and lung cancers, leukemia, glioblastoma, gastrointestinal and urinary tract cancers, and the number of people with cancerous diseases has reached more than 30,000 cases throughout Syria, most of whom are from Deir Ezzor and Al-Hasakah governorates, and they receive radiotherapy at Al-Biruni Hospital and the Department of Tumors in Tishreen University Hospital in Damascus, and the cost of private hospitals exceeds half a million Syrian pounds for each treatment session.
The high rate of all types of cancer after more than eight years of warnings issued by specialists in the eastern region of Deir Ezzor, Hasaka and Raqqa, about the results of gas emissions from primitive burners that are heated by heating crude oil to obtain oil derivatives (gasoline, diesel and kerosene), which form smoke clouds with high Toxic and unpleasant odors that are inhaled with polluted air and cause chronic coughing and rattle in the respiratory tract, in addition to throwing refining residues in agricultural lands and poisoning plants in conditions of high humidity in winter.
Oill refining operations in Deir Ezzor have caused other diseases, such as tuberculosis and neonatal deformities that vary between congenital anomalies, openings of the heart, lack of perfusion and delayed growth, as a result of pregnant women inhaling these gases, infections of the eyes and sinuses, skin diseases, nervous paralysis and kidney problems, in addition to cases of death caused by asthma patients and other cases.
