Smuggling operations have increased recently in Syria and Iraq, particularly tobacco smuggling, through special roads on the Syrian-Iraqi border near Al-Bukamal city east of Deir Ezzor.

Sources told Deir Ezzor 24 network that the elements and leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard militia are primarily responsible for smuggling tobacco through people who know the smuggling routes, and have been working in this business for a long time.

It is indicated that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard militia controls several areas of Deir Ezzor countryside (east of the Euphrates), and has great influence in the province.
