Residents of Raqqa city called on government agencies to intervene immediately to control meat prices and unify them between different shops, in light of the significant increase and noticeable disparity in prices, warning of a decline in purchasing power to levels that may deprive a large segment of meeting their basic food needs.

According to a number of residents, the price of a kilo of lamb reached about 180 thousand Syrian pounds, while the prices of chicken witnessed a clear difference between the neighborhoods, as the price of chicken breast recorded about 47 thousand pounds, compared to 32 thousand pounds for “Al-Soudah”, ( chicken liver) which reflects a noticeable price gap within the local market.

Residents attributed the reasons for this price chaos to the absence of effective supply control over the markets, in parallel with the high costs of production and transportation, demanding the intensification of control tours and the setting of unified pricing that takes into account the living conditions of citizens.

Residents fear that this increase will continue, as it will have direct repercussions on food security, given the difficult economic conditions the area is experiencing.
