Residents of the Al-Ardi neighborhood in the city of Deir Ezzor, opposite Nasrat al-Jajan Park, are suffering from the accumulation of rubble that has completely blocked the street for nearly six months, despite repeated requests to the municipality and Civil Defense with no notable response.
Residents confirm that the rubble — which has risen to ceiling level — has become a major obstacle to their daily lives and prevents them from beginning repairs to their homes amid the sharp increase in housing costs in the city.
According to the residents, they submitted multiple requests to the municipality, which inspected the site through its technical office. However, all requests were referred to the Civil Defense, which apologized for being unable to carry out the work due to a lack of resources, noting that it had previously informed the municipality that it cannot accept referred requests.
The rubble site is close to the construction area of the earthen-bridge detour project, which, in the residents’ view, makes it possible to use the debris in the ongoing backfilling work. This could speed up solving the problem and reopen the way for rebuilding their homes.
