After suffering sever devastation during Daesh control, Granij town in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside is seeing noticeable activation of rehabilitation and asphalting projects in its strees.
The municipality has recently carried out many rehabilitation and asphalting projects. The main roads in the town are now very good according to many citizens, and the work continues to rehabilitate the rest of the town’s streets.
In a statement to Deir Ezzor 24 network, Mr. Ahmed Al-Faris, a member of al-Sha’eb municipality in Granij, talked about how people were suffering from the poor conditions of streets and roads in the town, pointing to the large number of potholes and earth barriers in the streets of the town. He continued, saying: “Al-Sha’eb municipality in Granij asphalted the road from Tel Shaabi to the outskirts of al-Kashkiyah town, and the work is going on until reaching al-Kashkiyah town.
Deir Ezzor 24 asked many residents of the town about their opinions of the project implemented by the municipality. Most of them praised the quality of the work carried out by the municipality with regard to the rehabilitation of streets in the town. Abu Ali, a resident of Granij said:
The roads were very bad, so vehicle owners had to have their vehicles fixed every week or month because of the bumpy roads. He added: “Now the situation is much better than before as the streets are now well paved. This mitigates many of the problems suffered by the residents. We hope that they will rehabilitate all the secondary roads inside the town.”
The municipality intends to launch a number of service projects to improve the living conditions of the town’s residents,
In this context, Mr. Ahmed al-Faris said: “We have announced many tenders for the construction of sidewalks, installation of street lights, and rehabilitation of the municipal offices and some roads in Granij and al-Bahrah towns, and in the next few days, we will announce other tenders to equip the municipality bakery with modern machines, rehabilitate the central park and build divider in the main street.” At the end of his speech, Al-Faris hoped that these projects would improve the life of citizens and make it easier after what they have been through because of Daesh.
The eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor is witnessing many service projects that aim at improving the living conditions of the population. The projects cover not only Granij town but several cities and towns in the eastern countryside.
