Today, Saturday, May 30, 2020, the autonomous administration issued a decision determining to buy wheat and barley from farmers at new prices in the administration’s areas.
It determined the price of wheat to be 315 Syrian pounds per kilogram, and the price of barley to be 150 Syrian pounds per kilogram.
Earlier this month, the Executive council of the autonomous administration had instructed the agricultural bodies, economic committees and the Farmers’ Union to hold intensive meetings to discuss the falling Syrian pound problem, and set new prices for the purchase of wheat and barley, after it had previously determined to purchase wheat at 225 Syrian pounds per kilogram for 2020 season.
It is indicated that the Syrian pound is suffering an unprecedented state of collapse and instability, that has affected all aspects of life, including agriculture.
