A group calling themselves the al-Sahrqiya battalions claimed responsibility for two operations in the Assad regime-controlled areas of Deir Ezzor.
The first operation occurred on Tuesday as unknown assailants driving a car, parked in front of the Fatimiyoon militia headquarters in the town of Hattla. The assailants entered the headquarters pretending to want to drink water. The assailants killed three fighters of the militia, seized their weapons, and escaped.
The second occurred on Saturday when unknown assailants on a motorcycle tried to assassinate Brigadier Ahmad Khalil, chief of the Military Security branch, near the old Faculty of Arts on al-Nahr Street in the city of Deir Ezzor. The operation failed and the assailants escaped.
The al-Sharqiya battalions have recently appeared, claiming responsibility for military operations against the Assad forces and Iranian militias in Deir Ezzor.
