Money exchange shop owners in towns in the western Deir Ezzor countryside have refrained from exchanging currencies due to the decline in the dollar exchange rate over the past 24 hours, according to a reporter DeirEzzor24 Network.
Our reporter stated that the exchange rate of the US dollar against the Syrian pound in the city of Maadan reached 8,500 Syrian pounds per US dollar, and in the town of al-Tabni, it reached 8,600 Syrian pounds per US dollar, prompting most money exchange shops to cease exchanging dollars.
Mohammed al-Turki, owner of a money transfer and exchange shop, confirmed that their capital is small and cannot bear any losses. They are waiting for the exchange rate to stabilize before they can resume operations.
He added that they are committed to exchanging only for money transfer owners, if they wish to withdraw the transfer, whether in Turkish lira or US dollars, or to deliver it in the original currency.
Money exchange shops in the city of Ma’dan and the al-Tabni district in the western Deir Ezzor countryside rely on monitoring the exchange rate in Deir Ezzor city by communicating via WhatsApp groups with exchange and remittance centers located in the city.
Remittance and exchange centers in the western Deir Ezzor countryside witnessed a large turnout over the past 24 hours, as expatriates sent remittances to their relatives residing in al-Tabni, Ma’dan, and their surrounding villages ahead of Eid.
Residents called on the relevant regulatory authorities to impose oversight on exchange and remittance centers, intending to obligate them to exchange at a rate approved by everyone. This is due to their exploitation of residents during the Eid period, forcing them to exchange at lower rates compared to the exchange rate approved by central banks.
