The drug trade has recently witnessed a boom in Deir Ezzor province. Members of the Hezbollah militia and local elements affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards militia in the city are involved in drug trafficking.
One of the most prominent drug dealers in the region, “Abu Ali Al-Hamwi,” one of the workers in the Iranian Nasr Center, brings a batch from Hama every 15 days to sell and distribute it in Deir Ezzor.
The Iranian militias supervise the import and promotion of drugs from Iraq and Lebanon, as they deliberately flood the region with drugs, and they reap huge profits. The Fourth Division also contributes to that.
