Because of the media blackout imposed by ISIS on the city of Deir Ezzor, the reality of the ongoing clashes between ISIS and the Assad regime remains unclear.
ISIS media outlet reported today that the group gained full control over Al- Sinaa (the Industrial) neighbourhood of the city of Deir Ezzor, following a violent offensive which was preceded by triple VBIED attacks targeting the regime’s positions inside the neighbourhood.
Triple VBIED attacks were followed by a group of ISIS militants who stormed the regime barracks and succeeded in taking control over Al-Sinaa neighbourhood after clashes that continued for a couple of hours. Casualties was inflicted upon both parties as tens of Assad forces were killed and injured while a number of ISIS militants were reported dead and wounded as well. On the other hand, the group seized a large amount of ammo and ammunition in addition to an armored troop carrier,BMP.
This recent gain is considered very important with regard to the ongoing clashes inside Deir Ezzor city; it is also strategic as it enables the group to tighten its siege on the Deir Ezzor military airport.
It should be reminded that the FSA had captured Al-Sinaa neighbourhood ,before ISIS seized control over the city of Deir Ezzor one year ago, and the regime was able to recapture it to only lose it to ISIS today.
