Local sources in Al-Mayadeen city in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside revealed that the Assad intelligence branches have recently begun to fortify their positions in and around the city.
The sources indicated that the intelligence branches had cut off roads to their headquarters in Al-Mayadeen city, particularly on the southern entrance of Al-Mayadeen city, in addition to fortifying the military barracks in the vicinity of the city.
The sources indicated that the Assad regime has fortified its positions in the city more than at any times before, as the fortifications were so heavy, noting that the people inside the city were surprised by the actions taken by the Assad’s forces, as the city is far from any lines of contact with Daesh.
The Assad’s forces have not justified the heavy fortifications of their positions in the city, while the source said that the fortifications were likely done to prevent any attacks on the security headquarters in the city.
It is noteworthy that Daesh has been launching attacks, every now and then, on the Assad’s forces and the Iranian militias military posts in the vicinity of the major cities of Deir Ezzor province, such as the cities of Al-Mayadeen and Al-Bukamal.
