The Maizeala Dam in the Albukamal desert in the Deir Ezzor countryside was filled for the first time in about 15 years, after its storage capacity reached about 10 million cubic metres, as a result of the heavy rainfall witnessed in the region, which led to a rise in water levels in valleys and dams.
Immediately, the Water Resources Directorate teams, in cooperation with the residents of Al-Salihiya and Al-Jalaa villages, began carrying out urgent emergency work, with the aim of protecting the residents and their property from any potential damage that may result from the rise in water levels.
A technical team was able to reach the dam after a break that lasted for many years, despite it not undergoing any maintenance work during the last period, due to its vital importance in averting flood risks, in addition to its role in securing drinking water and watering livestock in the desert areas.
The Water Resources Directorate in Deir Ezzor confirmed its continued readiness to follow up on developments in the situation, calling on residents to adhere to the issued guidelines and instructions, in order to preserve public safety.
