On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, Daesh attacked buses transporting Assad forces’ 4th and 17th divisions’ members on the al-Shoula highway in the southern Deir Ezzor badiya, killing 22 members and injuring others.
22 of the killed members belong to the 17th Division and seven to the 4th Division; however, the attack injured nine members of the 17th Division some of whom sustained critical injuries.
A large military convoy of the National Defense militia and the 17th Division arrived at the site of the attack and transported the killed and injured members to the Military Hospital and the Assad Hospital in Deir Ezzor.
The commander of the Assad forces’ 17th Division vowed to take revenge against the attackers and that he will head a wide-scale campaign in the area.
Daesh’ attacking the buses coincided with Assad forces’ and supporting militias’ campaigns against posts in the southern Deir Ezzor badiya to chase Daesh.
