The Assad regime’s Waqf directorate in Deir Ezzor painted the dome of al-Tawba mosque in green and allocated part of its building to be as a residence place for Shiite pilgrims, a source told Deir Ezzor 24 network.
This action was met with great resentment by the local population, as their mosques are being turned into husseiniyas.
Al-Tawba mosque in Deir Ezzor is one of the main points from which the revolution started in early 2011. Assad’s forces bombed it with artillery guns in 2012 because they hated that it was a symbol of revolution in the city.
