Since the beginning of March, coronavirus spread significantly in the areas of Deir Ezzor (east of the Euphrates), amid decrease in precautionary measures and necessary equipment to deal with the pandemic.
The large spread of the virus in Deir Ezzor countryside has led to many deaths and dozens or maybe hundreds of infections.
A medical source told Deir Ezzor 24 network that most of the cases recorded were for people between the ages of 25 and 40. This group of people usually has high cure rate unless they suffer chronic diseases such as heart and respiratory diseases. At a lesser percentage, some of the recorded cases were for people aged 50 and over. This group has a higher risk of death in case they get infected with the virus because of their weak immunity systems, in addition to chronic diseases most of the elderly suffer from such as diabetes, heart disease, cardiac ischemia, renal insufficiency, asthma and emphysema.
The source said that the “al-Madina” hospital in al-Shihabat area in the western Deir Ezzor countryside is well equipped to receive critical conditions, as it has 15 ventilators and modern devices to deal with advanced cases of Covid-19 infections.
Hundreds of Covid-19 cases have recently been recorded in the eastern, western, northern and southern areas of Deir Ezzor countryside, amid a near-total absence of awareness-raising methods and failure to adhere to social distance and precaution measures to prevent the transmission of the virus.
