With the start of the cotton harvest phase in Deir Ezzor, the initial quantities did not bode well, as the average first harvest did not exceed 150 kg per acre, according to the correspondent of DeirEzzor24 network.
According to the intersection of the opinions of a number of cotton farmers, our correspondent said that the poor production of cotton in this season is due to several reasons, the most important of which is the poor irrigation capabilities, the lack of the necessary natural fertilizer, in addition to the obstacles facing farmers from high harvest and transportation rents, marketing bribes, and the high price of the empty bag, which reached Its price is 24 thousand Syrian pounds.
The area cultivated with cotton for this season in the Assad regime-controlled areas in Deir Ezzor amounted to 4950 hectares, while the Directorate of Agriculture expected production for this season of 9815 tons, as part of its statistics, which did not achieve half of the estimates of the last winter season of the wheat crop.
The Assad regime’s government recently raised the price of a kilo of cotton to 4000 Syrian pounds.
