The Assad-regime has recently suspended some of his military commanders operating in the province of Deir Ezzor in an attempt to win the heart of the locals who have suffered atrocities at the hands of these commanders.

Brigadier General Mohamed Khadur, the commander of the eastern region, was among those dismissed from their duties in Deir Ezzor. He was complicit in bribery taken from civilians fleeing the siege, they had to pay him huge amount of money to be permitted to leave the besieged areas. He has been accused of being responsible for the current sharp increase in food prices in the province due to his cooperation with some wealthy merchants in the city of Deir Ezzor. They monopolized food materials and then sold them at high prices.

Noteworthy, the situation of civilians living in the besieged areas has changed from bad to worse recently. Bread has been unavailable in al-Joura and al-Qusour neighborhoods for seven days. Drinkable water is also unfound amid the spread of severe poverty among civilians after the Assad-regime did not pay the employees in these areas.
