Since it with the Assad’s forces took control of the southern bank of the Euphrates river in Deir Ezzor province, Iran has sought to recruit some tribesmen in its project to spread Shiism in the region.
One of the most prominent figures recruited by Iran in Deir Ezzor is Abdul Majid al-Serawi, a 50-year-old man from Al-Shumeitiyah village in the western Deir Ezzor countryside, a member of Al-Busaraya tribe.
Al-Serawi studied the Shiite teachings in Hawzat al-Haydariya after studying the sharia previously, and then returned to his village to propagate the Shiite faith, through privileges provided to him by the Iranian militias and the Assad’s regime.
Al-Serawi was able to attract dozens of young people to the Shiite faith through playing on ideology, and persuasion especially through material temptations granted by Iran.
In response to his activities and services in Deir Ezzor, Iran granted him, through its men in Deir Ezzor, (a certificate of Al al-Bayt descent) and declared him as a certified Shiite sheikh in the area, according to D24 network correspondent.
