The Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization, launched a campaign today, Tuesday, to promote routine vaccination in the town of Sbikhan in the countryside of Deir Ezzor Governorate, with the participation of a delegation from the Ministry, the Health Directorate, and representatives of the two organizations.
Deir Ezzor Health Director Nasr Al-Alwan explained in a statement to SANA that the campaign was launched from Sbikhan Health Center due to its previous role in covering vaccine campaigns, noting that implementation is being carried out through fixed and mobile teams to reach children who have dropped out and failed to receive vaccines.
Alwan explained that the campaign includes implementing a simultaneous campaign for the oral polio vaccine, with the aim of addressing the shortage in vaccine coverage, especially after the return of families to the region, and the presence of large numbers of children who did not receive the necessary vaccines, in addition to the lack of data related to their health condition.
For his part, Director of the Department of Communicable and Chronic Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Yasser Al-Farouh, confirmed that the campaign aims to enhance immunity in children and complete basic vaccines, especially against measles and polio, stressing the importance of monitoring and early detection in reducing the spread of diseases.
The campaign includes a number of governorates, including Deir-Ezzor , Raqqa, and Hasakah, in addition to some areas of Aleppo, and targets children under the age of five, as well as vaccine dropouts, and will continue until next April 22.
