On Saturday, February 20, 2021, a convoy made up of 20 4×4 wheels and ten armored vehicles entered the Deir Ezzor military airbase. Two Russian helicopters escorted the convoy.
The Assad forces’ 5th Corps established two new posts at the gate of the airbase and other posts in the town of al-Jafra opposite the gate of the airbase. The corps used weapons and armored vehicles of the convoy.
Russia runs the 5th Corps and involves it in military tasks away from the Assad forces’ involvement.
