The Environment Directorate in Deir Ezzor Governorate launched a national program to monitor water pollutants from uncontrolled sources, as part of a long-term project being implemented at the governorate level and a number of Syrian regions, with the aim of improving the quality of drinking water and ensuring the safety of citizens in the countryside and the city.

Environment Director, Engineer Alaa Hazza, explained that the program focuses on conducting field inspections of water tanks in homes, especially in affected neighborhoods, in cooperation with the General Corporation for Drinking Water and the Health Directorate.

She explained that the work teams collect samples from collection, storage and public tanks, and subject them to analysis in the directorate’s laboratory to ensure their compliance with the approved health standards.

Hazza added that if the water is proven unfit for use, residents will be provided with the necessary sterilization materials and safe use instructions, and cases that require technical or health treatment will be referred to the competent authorities.

She stressed the importance of periodic sterilization of water tanks every six months, as it plays a role in maintaining water quality, reducing pollution risks, and protecting public health.
