With the beginning of the truffle season, groups of Deir Ezzor residents began heading to the desert to graze sheep and some to search for truffle locations.
A local reporter of the DeirEzzor24 Network said that the areas that were called the Triangle of Death or the death zones have become safe and no murders have been recorded there so far.
He added that the areas in question are in the Al-Bishri area in the southwestern countryside of Deir Ezzor, which has witnessed dozens of incidents of killing civilians who were herding sheep or searching for truffles over the past years, at the hands of gunmen from the Iranian-backed militias.
He pointed out that during the past month, Daesh elements stopped civilians from the town of Ayash, confiscated their food and mobile devices, asked them about their affiliation with the General Security or the Military Operations Department, and released them. Three weeks ago, a Daesh cell stopped civilians from the town of Al-Masrab who went to the desert to survey areas where truffles were found, and asked them to bring them food under the threat of pursuing them in the town if they refused to comply. It is worth noting that since the fall of the Assad regime and the entry of the Military Operations Department into Deir Ezzor, ISIS has lost its popularity, as many of its members believe that there is no longer a need for ISIS to exist, as its mission ended with the fall of Assad. On the other hand, large numbers of ISIS cells that were under the orders of the Assad regime and Iranian militias left the organization with the fall of Assad.
