In the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, people still go hunting for truffles which Deir Ezzor province is famous for, and the people depend on it as their sole source of livelihood.
The search for truffles is concentrated in the Badiyahs of Ruwayshed and Abu Khashap in Deir Ezzor countryside, where there are plenty of it.
Truffles are available in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside (Jazeera), and the price per kilo varies from 1200 to 1700 SYP.
While in the areas controlled by the Assad forces, truffles are largely found in the cities and towns of the eastern Deir countryside and the price per kilogram is 3000 SYP.
The Assad regime prevents people in its areas of control from going to the Badiyah to look for truffles, as the Badiyah is a military zone, and no one is allowed to approach it.
And all the truffles in the areas controlled by the Assad regime come from Iraq, through merchants of Iraqi militias and the merchant in the east of Deir Ezzor.
It is noteworthy that Deir Ezzor province is a fertile environment for the truffles, which exist in large quantities in the province, to the extent of selling it to other Syrian provinces.
