Deir Ezzor has recently experienced significant and noticeable increases in the prices of industrial and household goods and medical equipment due to increased shipping costs and fees, according to a reporter of the DeirEzzor24 Network.
Our reporter said that truck owners have recently raised fees for merchants and wholesale shop owners in Deir Ezzor when bringing goods from northern Syria, Aleppo Governorate, or the capital, Damascus.
Youssef al-Khader, a household goods trader, told DeirEzzor24 Network that shipping costs have increased by 15 percent in the past few days, largely due to the owners of truck and transport vehicles.
He added that truck owners are raising their fees due to the danger their vehicles are exposed to due to the roughness of the roads leading to Deir Ezzor and the long distances traveled due to the Raqqa-Aleppo international highway leading to Deir Ezzor not yet in service, leading to higher shipping costs.
A driver told DeirEzzor24 that the roughness of the roads and the lack of maintenance of the main roads lead to damage to vehicles and high maintenance costs, which has recently led to a rise in shipping prices.
Traders are calling on the relevant authorities to reopen the main roads and fully maintain the alternative roads passing through the Syrian desert.
