Residents of the destroyed neighborhoods in Deir Ezzor are calling on the relevant authorities to take urgent action to illuminate the main and side streets, citing the lack of safety due to the pitch darkness that has enveloped these neighborhoods, according to DeirEzzor24 Network.
A resident from the Al-Hamidiyah neighborhood told DeirEzzor24 Network, “The lack of lighting in the streets makes us anxious and increases the risk of kidnapping or robbery.”
He added, “Female students and workers are forced to walk in dark streets after returning from private lessons or work, which makes them anxious and fearful until they reach their homes.”
Although some families have begun to return to their homes in the destroyed neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor, the lack of basic infrastructure, most notably lighting, the rubble of buildings remaining in place, and the rough, potholed streets, threaten this return.
