With rising temperatures and frequent power outages, dozens of families are heading to the Euphrates River to sit along its banks.
Every day—especially on holidays many families go to the banks of the Euphrates and the Corniche Road in the city of Deir Ezzor, where they stay until late at night.
Families are keen to choose spots away from groups of young men along the river, particularly on the Corniche Road, where some youths gather to sit, in order to avoid disturbing the families.
Residents begin arriving at the riverbanks in the late afternoon and remain there until after midnight before returning to their homes.
The families have called on the relevant authorities in Deir Ezzor to clean the riverbanks of mud and garbage, with the aim of expanding the areas available for sitting.
The turnout along the river has recently increased due to the rising temperatures and continuous power cuts, making the Euphrates River banks a refuge to escape the heat and congestion inside the city.
