On February 21, 2021, teachers of the al-Furat Educational Compound organized a strike and refrained from teaching until a further notice.
Teachers of the compound that includes schools in the al-Shaitat area and the town of al-Bahra joined their colleagues in al-Busaira, Hajin, and al-Suwar. The teachers refrained from going to schools until the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) implement the teachers’ demands.
Teachers in the Deir Ezzor countryside demanded the Autonomous Administration and the SDF to respond to their demands most prominantly stopping compulsory recrutiment of educational workers, increasing teachers’ salaries, and protecting educational facilities
This comprehensive strike followed the Autonomous Administration’s neglicting teachers’ demands submitted on different occasions over the recent three months.
