Military Security branch members increased the wage to 5,000 Syrian pounds to allow civilians to pass the al-Salihiya crossing in Deir Ezzor. The branch blackmails the civilians on purpose amidst hindering and complex procedures.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters receive 500 SYP per person wanting to cross in return for a computerized check that is obtained instantly.

The al-Salihiya crossing is a land crossing linking the liberated areas of Deir Ezzor to those controlled by the Assad forces. Many civilians are forced to use the crossing, especially those who have transactions in governmental directorates or want to travel between governorates.

All the Assad regime’s security services and checkpoints in Deir Ezzor governorate are carrying out practices that violate the law, which perpetuate corruption and increase the burdens of citizens who are barely able to secure a living.
