Last night, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) carried out a large-scale security operation in the town of Gharanij, east of Deir Ezzor, following the arrival of significant military reinforcements that were stationed around the town in preparation for a raid campaign that lasted until the early hours of dawn, according to a reporter from the DeirEzzor24 network.
According to local testimonies, the SDF imposed a strict security cordon on the town and set up checkpoints at its entrances and exits. This was followed by an intensive sweep operation using drones, which resulted in the arrest of several civilians.
Local sources reported that SDF members stormed several homes, vandalized property, and looted mobile phones and gold jewelry, causing panic and fear, especially among women and children.
In a related incident, SDF members set fire to the house of one of its defected commanders, known as “Abu Al-Harith”, who had announced his defection several months ago. Local sources confirmed that the militia looted the house’s contents before setting it ablaze.
At dawn, the forces began withdrawing from the town, leaving behind an atmosphere of tension and public anger. The residents of Gharanij called on the Syrian government to intervene and take responsibility for reclaiming control over areas held by the SDF militia.
