A fire broke out in the Al-Jalaa Center for Palm Tree Propagation, west of the city of Al-Bukamal, today, as a result of sparks flying from a nearby grass fire on the river bank.
The fire broke out in a section of the palm farm after the wind activity contributed to the sparks reaching the center, and thus the fire started in some of the palm trees there.
The correspondent of Deir Ezzor 24 Network said that the civil defense teams, along with the workers in the center and groups of residents, were able to extinguish the fire and cool the affected area, which was limited to some of the northern strips adjacent to the Euphrates River.
It is noteworthy that the Palm Tree Propagation Center in the town of Al-Jalaa extends over an area of 2,000 dunams and contains 41 strips containing all types of palm trees, some of which are rare species. It is one of the most important centers in the country for producing palm seedlings of various types, and it contains more than 12,500 palm trees.
