On Monday, January 16, at least 11 civilians were killed in different areas in the province of Deir Ezzor due to indscriminate airstrikes and artillery shelling by the Assad regime and their militias, which coincide with heavy clashes against Daesh on most of the front lines in the city of Deir Ezzor.
A D24 correspondent said today that at least 6 civilians were killed in airstrikes by the regime on the Humeidiya and Oradi neighborhoods, while 5 others, including a new born baby, were killed in similar air raids on the Muhassan city in the eastern countryside.
4 civilian casualties were caused by a Daesh mortar shelling on the besieged neighborhoods, which are controlled by the regime.
In the same context, the organization took control over the Jarya Residential Project west of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, in addition to other areas west of it today. This has led to the cutting off of the supply lines to the airport and isolating the eastern and western neighborhoods from each other. The organization has also advanced in the Omal neighborhood of the city.
This means that the organization has made strategic gains against Assad’s forces, as it has separated the regime-held areas into two parts, which would facilitate their capturing.
Clashes continue south of Deir Ezzor, with advances of the organization on several positions. After Daesh gained control over the Assurance Battalion and the Agricultural Engineers Building south of the airport, they managed to advance to the Baluk Factories and Qar`mid west of the airport, tightening the pressure on Assad’s forces.
The military airport and the Harabish neighborhoods, controlled by Assad, are now separated from Brigade 137, the Joura and the Qusour neighborhoods, as well as the security square in the Ghazi Ayash neighborhood. This is connection with violent battles taking place in the Ruwad hill west of the city, the vicinity of the Panorama Checkpoint and the Thurdah Mountain.
The fierce battles are accompanied by heavy airstrikes by both, the regime and Russia, on the neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor city, which are controlled by Daesh, in addition to the frontlines in the Thurdah, the Ruwad hill, the Panorama and the civinity of the airport, where dozens of airstrikes have been carried out so far.
