Assad regime’s security branches in Deir Ezzor stripped 17 of the region’s mukhtars of their stamps after discovering that they have sons living in areas outside of Assad regime’s control during extensive security studies conducted by the security branches in the cities and towns of Deir Ezzor.
The security branches handed over the stamps to figures known for their absolute loyalty to Assad regime, and have no wanted sons. One of the mukhtars who were stripped of their stamps is Hussein al-Aref, the mukhtar of al-Tabiya Jazeera town in the northern Deir Ezzor countryside.
Mukhtars have a social position in the region. they participate in official activities and events held by the party and government, and play a role in resolving social disputes, as they are locally known as people judges.
