Today, Wednesday, several areas of the eastern and western Deir Ezzor countryside witnessed protests and sit-ins, denouncing the threatening made by the Assad regime and Iran to enter the areas of the eastern Euphrates over the past few days.

The protests were held in Al-Hissan town in the western Deir Ezzor countryside, and the towns of Jedid Akidat, Al-Sabha, Ash-Shahil, and Al-Bassirah city in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, where the protesters raised slogans and banners demanding that the international coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces assume their full responsibilities to protect the eastern Euphrates areas of Deir Ezzor from any possible attack by Assad’s forces and the Iranian and Russian militias. The protesters also raised banners denouncing the criminality of the Assad regime and Iran and underlining that the eastern Euphrates in Deir Ezzor is a red line against Assad, Iran, and the Russian militias.

Deir Ezzor’s protests coincide with the recent accelerating events following Turkey’s military operation in northern Syria against the Syrian democratic forces, that led to meetings between leaders from the SDF with officials from Assad’s forces to negotiate the entry of Assad’s forces into the border areas that were controlled by the SDF in exchange for understandings to repel the Turkish attack by both sides, which sounded the alarm among the people of Deir Ezzor for fear of any negotiations with the Assad regime regarding their territory.
