US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Ethan Goldrich, and OIR Operation Commander Major. Joe Vowell met in northeastern Syria with the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Syrian Democratic Council, and tribal leaders from Deir Ezzor.
According to the website of the US Embassy in Syria, the parties of the meeting agreed on the importance of addressing the grievances of the local population in Deir Ezzor and the dangers of outsiders interfering in the area. The participants stressed “the need to avoid civilian deaths and casualties, and the need for de-escalation of violence as soon as possible.”
Both Goldrich and Major General Vowell stressed the importance of the strong American partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces in efforts to defeat Daesh.
The Global Coalition announced, at dawn today, in a written statement, the necessity of ending the clashes in Deir Ezzor, resorting to the Sunni solution, and standing by and supporting the SDF.
