4 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard militia were killed and others were wounded, including Iraqi figures who were present in Deir Ezzor, after US airstrikes targeted several militia positions in the city of Deir Ezzor and its eastern countryside, according to the correspondent of DeirEzzor24 Network.
He said that American planes launched, at dawn today, several raids on sites of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard militia in Deir Ezzor, in response to the killing of an American contractor and the wounding of five members of the American forces and another American contractor, in a raid by an Iranian drone on a maintenance facility at a coalition base near Al-Hasakah in northeastern Syria at approximately 1:38 p.m.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said, “At the direction of President Biden, the US Central Command authorized the launch of precision air strikes tonight in eastern Syria against facilities used by groups affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.” He added, “The air strikes came in response to today’s attack as well as a series of Recent attacks against coalition forces in Syria by groups affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The American strikes targeted sites of the American Revolutionary Guard militia in the city of Deir Ezzor, Badia Al-Mayadeen and Badia Al-Bukamal in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, with militia members on alert throughout the province.
