DeirEzzor24 exclusive report:
In the recent period, it was noticed that the water of the groundwater wells used for irrigation and agriculture in Deir Ezzor turned into salinity, in varying and somewhat large proportions, after it was normal water, according to what the DeirEzzor24 network correspondent reported.
He said that this transformation of the water of the wells came despite their presence in the Euphrates Valley and the proximity of some of them to the river bed, in addition to the drying up of most of them as a result of the low level of those wells, which necessitated an increase in their depths.
He added that the salinity of those wells caused soil salinity and most of them turned into swampy fields as a result of the failure of the agricultural associations operating on the Euphrates River, and the dependence of watering on those wells, in addition to unregulated irrigation in the third and fifth irrigation sectors, which depend on flooding the fields with water permanently by its investors, officers. Assad’s forces and the influential Iranian Revolutionary Guard militia, and the lack of drainage channels for land reclamation.
A large number of irrigation canals have gone out of service since the middle of last February, due to the significant decrease in the water level of the Euphrates River, which led to a great demand for watering the lands from the water of those wells.
