Local sources in Deir Ezzor Governorate reported that the Syrian Internal Security Forces carried out an arrest operation against the so-called “Firas Abdul Hamid Al-Mazhur”, who is considered one of the prominent figures associated with the former regime in the governorate.
According to circulating information, Al-Mazhur comes from the village of Al-Hisan in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, and his name became prominent during the years of the Syrian conflict through his movement between several military and security agencies.
Sources indicate that he was a member of the “ISIS” organization during the period of its control over parts of the city, before later introducing himself as one of those involved in the ranks of the Free Army, claiming his support for the Syrian revolution.
During that period, according to sources, Al-Mazhur worked to bring food supplies into the besieged neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor city through smuggling routes, while his brother sold them at high prices, which sparked local criticism at the time.
As former regime forces regained control of the city, sources say that Al-Mazhur established close relationships with prominent security figures, most notably the head of the State Security Branch in Deir Ezzor at the time, where he received support to expand his commercial activity, making his company one of the largest companies in the governorate.
He also played a role in reconciliation and settlement efforts, presenting himself as a mediator to return civilians to their homes, within the framework of arrangements made with the support of security agencies.
No official statements have yet been issued detailing the arrest or charges against him, while ongoing investigations are expected to reveal more circumstances related to his activity over the past years.
