The Deir Ezzor Health Directorate, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, has launched a home-based spray campaign using a residual insecticide in several areas, aiming to combat the leishmaniasis epidemic (commonly known as Aleppo sore).
The campaign includes specialized teams for spraying and awareness, as well as paramedics and facilitators to provide the necessary logistical support.
Dr. Maysoun Al-Hussein, head of the Leishmaniasis Center, explained that the campaign is carried out annually during the peak activity period of the disease-carrying insect, and was preceded by a distribution campaign of protective mosquito nets to affected individuals.
It is worth noting that the Directorate recorded a significant decrease in the number of infections—by 83% compared to previous years—indicating the effectiveness of the measures taken.
