A dispute arose between Abu Laith Al-Ma’ishi, the commander of Al-Baqir Brigade militia in Deir Ezzor, and the commander of the Sayyida Zainab Regiment militia in Al-Mayadeen, east of Deir Ezzor, according to a local reporter of DeirEzzor24.
According to the reporter, the dispute occurred as both factions had been competing against each other over drug traficking operations in and around the city of Al-Mayadeen, and the incident escalated after Al-Baqir militia withdrew its members from the Badia region and moved them to the Mayadeen city.
A number of Iranian militia commanders in the Mayadeen intervened in order to contain the dispute and calm the situation.
