The phenomenon of extorting civilians at checkpoints of Assad’s forces and security branches has recently increased in Deir Ezzor city.
Deir Ezzor 24 network correspondent said that during the past period, several cases were reported of civilians being stopped at checkpoints in Deir Ezzor city and given orders to visit one of the security branches, which extort them by fabricated charges such as (calling external parties or leaving Syria illegally and then returning), forcing them to pay large amounts of money to get rid of these charges.
Our correspondent added that al-Panorama checkpoint is the most one doing this, as it is now known as the (10 million per day checkpoint).
The extortions are carried out with knowledge of Assad regime, which leaves its security branches and forces free to deal with civilians.
