Students in the besieged areas of Deir Ezzor are going to their faculties at Al-Furat University, as the third session of exams has begun.
A private source indicated to D24 that, “the number of students attending the exams has sharply diminished compared to the previous sessions, and this is mainly because of the crippling siege, which has paralyzed most aspects of life in the besieged areas. For example, many of these students are pushed to walk long distances to get to their faculties, amid lack of means of transport due to a severe shortage of fuel. In addition, there is no proper food, no electricity and no drinking water.”
The arrest campaigns conducted by the Republican Guards militias and the military security branches in Deir Ezzor, which forcibly recruit the youth, have led many students to either hide or leave the besieged areas, in case there is an opportunity for this. This also explains why many students have preferred not to pass their exams at this moment for the militias have previously targeted students at the campus of some faculties with its forced conscription program.
The arrest campaigns that target the youth in Deir Ezzor occur whenever Daesh launches an offensive on Assad forces in the besieged areas.
