After US-backed SDF forces drove Daesh out of the western countryside of Deir Ezzor which led to a relatively calm situation in the region, a health center was opened in Safirah Tahtani town by the Deir Ezzor Civil Council-linked health committee.
It is the only available health center in the Kassrah area and it is providing medical services to the residents of the following villages: Al Hasswa, Al Hissan, Safirah Fawqani, Safirra Tahtani, Moheimidah and Muheimidah Gharbiya. It had been backed by several organizations before the arrival of Daesh in the province, including Madkal organization, however, the support was cut off in July 2013. After that, the locals tried to equip the center with all necessary equipment to keep it operational, despite the cutoff of support.
However, Daesh sized control over it in the year of 2015 and turned it into a field hospital for the treatment of its affiliates. The organization had looted all equipment and materials from the health center before retreating from Muheiidah town. The looted stuff was transported to the group’s controlled areas in eastern Deir Ezzor. After SDF controlled the western countryside of Deir Ezzzor, the SDF-linked council opened the center in 2017, but it was in a sharp lack of all medical equipment.
An official at the health center has told D24 that, ‘ the center is in lack of furniture and medical devices, in addition to a severe shortage of medicines. It also needs urgent renovation to its services sections.’
