The Ministry of Interior announced that its units in Deir Ezzor Governorate, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, were able to thwart an ISIS terrorist plot that was targeting a government convoy in the town of Baghouz in the countryside of Abukamal.
The Ministry explained that the operation came as a result of an intense intelligence effort, based on careful follow-up, information collection and analysis, which allowed the implementation of proactive measures that prevented the attack from occurring.
The operation resulted in the arrest of Khaled Ahmed Azzawy, who was involved in planning the operation, in addition to the seizure of explosive devices that were prepared for explosion.
According to the statement, the specialized engineering teams began their tasks immediately, as they were able to defuse the explosive devices, secure the site, and transport the seized materials in accordance with approved procedures, which prevented any human or material losses.
The Ministry confirmed that the arrested person had been transferred to the Counter-Terrorism Department to complete investigations and take the necessary legal measures.
