International agencies and institutions said, the day before yesterday, that the American authorities arrested “Samir Othman Al-Sheikh,” governor and head of the security committee in Deir Ezzor Governorate, in 2011 on charges of committing war crimes.
Brigadier General Samir Al-Sheikh is from Idlib Governorate. He left for the United States of America to reunite with his wife, who has been an American citizen for four years. He was arrested by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation two days ago.
In addition to his crimes and tasks in other governorates, including heading the Political Security Branch in Damascus, Adra Prison, and the administration of the Zabadani region, “Samir Al-Sheikh,” through his duties in Deir Ezzor, is considered primarily responsible for the Al-Joura and Al-Qusour massacre and the massacre of the cemeteries, and responsible for referring detainees from Deir Ezzor Governorate to the security branches and Saydnaya Prison, in addition to giving Direct orders to kill civilians and demonstrators in July 2011.
