BEIRUT, Lebanon Security forces in the eastern Syrian city of Deir Ezzor have arrested a suspect in the killing of Kendy al-Adai, a local media activist whose body was discovered over the weekend in his apartment in the city’s Al-Joura neighborhood, officials said Monday.
The arrest came after surveillance footage showed the suspect entering and exiting the building multiple times around the time the crime is believed to have occurred. Four witnesses also reportedly provided testimony linking the suspect to the killing.
The man, identified by authorities only by his nickname, Abu Jaddama, is a former member of the National Defense Forces, a pro-government militia. He was reportedly on a list of wanted individuals in the region. Officials said the suspect attempted to evade arrest by setting up an escape route inside his home but was ultimately detained after resisting security forces.
An investigation remains underway. Authorities said preliminary evidence, including video recordings and eyewitness statements, strongly implicates the suspect.
