Signs for power struggles between Iran and Russia have recently begun to appear in Deir Ezzor.
As D24 correspondent reported, there was a tension between the Russians and the Iranians after the Russian forces in Deir Ezzor had informed Nawaf Al-Bashir of the need to withdraw his militias out of the area, especially from Al-Husseiniyah village, which is the dividing line with the areas under the control of the SDF.
“The new Russian orders for Al-Bashir caused a state of fear among other Iranian militias leaders in Hatlah town, near Al-Husseiniyah village to face the same fate as the militia of Nawaf Al-Bashir, which is one of the strongest militias in the region,” the reporter added.
“The decision of the Russian forces for Al-Bashir to withdraw the militia he leads concided with the arrest of “Subhi Al-Hannan” by an Iranian militia in the region, who is considered one of the most important figures of the reconciliation process and was working under the umbrella of the Russian forces, he was arrested after a dispute with Nawaf Al-Bashir,” he added.
Russia seeks to undermine Iran’s influence in Deir Ezzor by repeated attempts to keep out Iranian militias in the badiyah and to keep the Assad and Russian forces inside the vital areas of Deir Ezzor, on the other hand, Iran continues its intensive activity at all levels in Deir Ezzor without caring about the Russian measures, which may go to open options between the two ostensibly allied parties.
