The people of the town of Tal Barak and its countryside expressed their strong dissatisfaction with the deterioration in the quality of bread produced in local bakeries , describing the loaf as «unfit for human consumption», amid urgent demands for immediate intervention from the competent regulatory authorities.
The residents talked about a number of recurring problems in daily bread, most notably: poor kneading and ripening, discoloration and bad smell, in addition to a noticeable weight loss compared to the approved standards.
Residents attributed these problems to poor control over the quality of the flour used, or the failure of some bakery owners to adhere to the required health and technical standards.
The residents called on the Directorate of Supply and Internal Trade and the concerned authorities to intensify surprise inspection tours of all bakeries operating in the region, hold violators strictly accountable, and conduct periodic laboratory tests on raw materials (flour, water, and yeast) to ensure the production of bread that complies with approved nutritional and health standards.
Citizens stressed that the continuation of this phenomenon negatively affects the health of families and children in particular, calling on the responsible authorities to take decisive measures before the crisis worsens, especially in light of the difficult economic conditions that the people are experiencing.
