Several streets in the city of Raqqa turned into mud swamps after the rain fell, as a result of the absence of an asphalt layer on a large number of roads, which caused great difficulties in the movement of cars and pedestrians.

The problem is concentrated in the neighborhoods of Al-Hadiqa Al-Bayda, Al-Rumaila, and Al-Direya, in addition to the Al-Soor area, where the streets turn into muddy roads that impede movement and increase the suffering of residents, especially on rainy days.

Residents of the Direya neighborhood confirmed that the area has not witnessed road paving work or maintenance of rainwater drainage grid for about seven years, noting that they had repeatedly submitted requests to the local councils previously affiliated with the administration that managed the area, but those demands did not receive a response.

Residents appealed to  Raqqa City Council and Raqqa Governorate to intervene to serve these neighborhoods by maintaining rainwater drainage grid, rehabilitating roads, and extending a new asphalt layer to reduce the suffering of residents.

On the other hand, the residents of Al-Hadiqa Al-Bayda neighborhood indicated that there is wear and tear in the water drainage grid and blockage in some of its lines, in addition to the damage to the asphalt layer for years, which increases the accumulation of water in the streets.

Residents of the Al-Soor area also reported that the area had not witnessed any road paving work for many years, which led to most of the streets turning into dirt roads that quickly turned into mud swamps with the first rainfall.
