The Deir Ezzor 24 Network spotted huge fires that broke out in bushes and trees in the Haweija of the town of al-Muray’iyah 10 kilometers far from the city of Deir Ezzor. The area is famous for its agricultural lands and pastures.

Residents accuse militias in the town such as the National Defense, Fatimiyoon, the 4th Division, the Liwaa al-Quds, and others of starting the fires, especially as the area is full of Iranian and Assad regime’ militias due to its proximity to the Deir Ezzor Military Airbase.

Iranian militias commit such violations in retaliation against residents of Deir Ezzor opposing the Assad regime. These militias and the regime adopt the scorched-earth approach in representation of Shabiha’s saying “Either Assad, or we will burn the country.”

Deliberate fires have burnt tens of thousands of agricultural hectares over the recent years in Deir Ezzor. This stirred farmers’ worries, fearing for their crops that have become vulnerable to fires. These crops are the farmers’ sole source of income.
