Deir Ezzor neighborhoods and villages are in a state of constant darkness, in the absence of electricity for more than six years.

The power lines feeding Deir Ezzor have been out of service since 2013, as a result of being shelled and destroyed during the fighting between the Assad forces and factions of the Free Army, adding to it, the Assad aircraft targeted the main power line coming to Deir Ezzor from Homs province through Palmyra city.

Since then, the people of Deir Ezzor have been living in total darkness all day except for few hours of electricity, under the pretext of “electricity rationing” pending repairs.

This lie has been on the lips of the Assad regime’s officials from the very beginning until now, where very large sums of money have been allocated more than once to repair the main power lines feeding Deir Ezzor, the last of which was one million and two hundred thousand euros, but the status of electricity in Deir Ezzor did not get better at all.

Thus, the people of Deir Ezzor are forced to live in darkness, or draining the very little they have to buy the fuel needed to run power generators, or paying for a line from giant generators run by merchants who earn huge profits, taking 1000 SYP per kilo watt of electricity, which weighs heavily on the citizens with low or no income at all so to say.

Between the rampant corruption in the Assad regime’s governmental circles and the promises of the officials to improve the status of electricity, the people of Deir Ezzor stay in darkness which brings them hundreds of years back when human beings lived without electricity.
